The European nation-states have delegated many powers to the institutions of the Union - with the result that the EU can now in many cases give its members the direction. The Arab League, on the other hand, remains entirely in the hands of the national governments and is controlled by them alone. This shows that a comparison between the EU and the Arab League is impossible, illogical and unfair. Unity can only really be achieved if the dictatorial and militarist governments are abolished and - as in the case of the European Parliament elections - the rule of democracy is established through the ballot boxes.
